Frequently Asked Questions
1. Do I have to have dance experience to try out?
Nope, we will train you! AJB has two different companies- Performance Co. (upper level- dancers have at least 2-3 years experience) and Apprentice Co. (training company- dancers have no experience to 1 year experience).
2. What kind of dance do you perform?
AJB performs ALL styles of dance including jazz, contemporary/modern and hip hop. Dancers train daily in all styles including those mentioned above, as well as ballet and strength training.
3. Do I have to go to Elsik High School to be in AJB?
Nope! Alief Jazz Ballet Dance Co. is the district dance company, which mean you can go to any high school in Alief to participate!
4. Does AJB practice after school?
AJB does not have after school practice. If you make Performance Co., you will have morning practice starting at 6:30am and 1st period. If you make Apprentice Co., rehearsals will be during 5th period only (3rd period for Kerr students). On occasion, when preparing for shows, we have rehearsals after school during the week of our Winter and Spring Shows.
5. Do I have to pay to be in AJB?
AJB does have a cost and this is to pay for your practice and performance apparel that you use on a daily basis. More information and finance will be discussed at the tryout meeting.
6. I'm in 8th grade right now, can I try out?
Yes! Tryouts are open to current 8th through 11th graders. We will have two tryout slots (one for high school and one for middle school) to allow for 8th graders to come to tryouts after their school day ends.
